  • it must withstand not only its own weight, but also the weight of climatic precipitation, taking into account the snow that can fall on it from the roof, as well as the weight of the green spaces surrounding it;
  • since water will drain onto it, it is necessary to provide for a system for its collection into a storage tank or outflow into a storm drainage system;
  • it is desirable that the structure protects not only the front door, but also the porch as a whole;
  • the structure should not look like a foreign stain: it must fully comply with the general style of the cottage.

As for the last point, then with external indicators and design everything will be in order if you focus on the material from which the visor will be created. It should be combined with the exterior of the house, with the porch itself and with the roof. In this case, it is not necessary that the material completely matches. Working with metal is not as easy as working with polycarbonate, because a special machine is needed to weld it. This means that there must be at least some skills to work with it. The disadvantage of this option is that the metal requires anti-corrosion treatment. Note that this design, unlike the previous one, is completely made of metal, which means that it requires more attention.

A feature of this material is its truly unique lightness. At the same time, the material remains durable and completely reliable. Plastic is available in different colors, but it can also be brought to the desired shade with the help of a film.

Option # 5 - metal and bituminous tiles

Two very different materials. It is better to construct canopies of them simultaneously with the erection of the roof of the structure itself. In addition, these materials will only be appropriate if the roof covering and the canopy are completely identical. Otherwise, the difference will be too striking.

A pretty visor made of reddish-brown metal tiles looks quite unusual. Its Gothic form fully corresponds to the architectural concept of the entire cottage.

These types of shingles are diametrically opposed in weight. Metal shingles are heavy material, while bituminous shingles are lightweight. Nevertheless, both visors will turn out to be nice and of high quality. A metal tile product will be slightly noisier in case of rain.

Making a visor over the porch with your own hands is not as difficult as it might seem. However, patience, at least, must be shown. To create this reliable and durable structure, we need the following materials:

  • metal corners;
  • cornice strip;
  • abutment bar;
  • bars;
  • gutter;
  • trumpet;
  • flexible tile or corrugated board;
  • screws, screws, anchors.

You need to prepare tools:

  • roulette;
  • welding machine;
  • hacksaw for metal.

Do-it-yourself work on a visor over the porch begins with a sketch of the future structure. Since we are not going to make an abstract visor, but a very specific one, you will have to take a tape measure and determine the width of your porch. Add 60 cm to the figure determined by the measurement, and you get the width of your visor.

An approximate sketch of the structure looks like this. Do not rely on your own memory and imagination: draw, it will not take you much time, but it will not give you a chance to make mistakes.

You have received all the necessary parameters, on the basis of which you can create a sketch.

Next, we proceed to trimming metal corners to the required dimensions. The length of the rafters from the corners is equal to the height of the ramp. From the corners, struts and a wall beam will be made. Between themselves, all the frame parts are assembled by welding. The resulting strong and reliable frame will be fixed above the porch. The wall beam is fixed with stainless screws in front of the entrance, and anchors must be used to fasten the struts.

A crate is laid out of the bars on the rafters. If the visor is covered with corrugated board, a distance of 30 cm must be made between the slats. If the design will be made with flexible tiles, the crate must be made solid. The selected roofing material will be laid on it. You need to fix it on self-tapping screws, but with an overlap, and not end-to-end.

The finishing touches are the fixation of the metal abutment strip to the upper part of the ramp. A cornice strip is attached to the lower part. It remains to mount the gutter and pipe.

Step-by-step guide to creating a visor over an entrance with a blueprint

Having decided on the material and having thought about the design of the canopy, you need to move on to the most important stage - determining the size. The length and width of your visor should cover the area you think needs it. The determination of the required dimensions depends on this. For example, let's take a frame 99x150x183 cm.

  2. construction accessories (rafters, hammer, drill, level, tape measure, dowels, nails, screws and bolts, saw, etc.)

  4. the selected material to cover the visor.

So, let's start assembling and assembling our visor.

Step 1: cutting the beams

It is better to draw a sketch of the structure in advance, and then start preparing wooden beams for the visor. All wooden parts should be treated with special solutions against mold, dampness and possible fire.

So, we process our wooden parts with means for protecting wood from external influences and start marking on the wall where our visor will be located in the future.

We cut out 19 parts according to the drawing.

Step 2: Preparing the holes and securing the support beams

On the wall, using a level, mark the place of fasteners - 2 on each side. Then we drill holes for fixing the supporting beams, attach them and screw them to the wall with dowels.

We finish the markup and start drilling the holes. Choose a drill depending on which dowels you will use

Note: it is better to screw the dowels into the countersunk holes on the bars so that the screw head does not protrude from the outside.

Step 3: Assembling the base frame

We assemble the lower jibs and lateral perpendicular elements of the upper harness together using spike joints and self-tapping screws. We attach the truss structure to the wall with frame dowels. We install the upper edges of the rafters on the supporting frame, and the lower edges on the side rails of the upper harness.

We install the supporting beams. Use a level to keep your design straight

Step 4: finalizing the side rafters

We connect the shortened side beams to the corner rafters. We fasten everything with self-tapping screws.

Step 5: roof canopy

Now it's time to cover our hinged frame with the roofing material you have chosen for yourself. For this option, corrugated board, soft tiles or polycarbonate are perfect.

Having installed and secured all the main parts of the frame, we proceed to the installation of the roof. Everything is simple here, we fasten the selected material to the frame of the visor with self-tapping screws and everything is ready

Do-it-yourself visor over the porch
A theater begins with a coat rack, an apartment begins with a hallway, and the first impression of a house is created by a visor over the porch. That is why I decided to decorate the entrance to the dwelling with such an element. I didn't buy the finished one, but made my own original version.
From a metal profile pipe with a section of 20 × 20 mm, I welded two triangular side frames and a pediment frame of the same shape.
From steel wire and tin made patterns in the form of twigs with leaves. To do this, he heated the material and gave it the desired shape with a hammer. I welded the finished ornaments into the side frames.
From a strip with a section of 20 × 4 mm, using the previously described method, I made curly curl elements and also fixed them in a pediment frame.

Using welding, I assembled the frame, primed it, covered it with one layer of black waterproof paint and screwed the structure with self-tapping screws over the front door of the house.
On top I screwed sheets of galvanized metal profile.
I attached a lantern to the finished visor, it serves not only as an illumination, but also, in my opinion, emphasizes the originality of the design.
